As a Toastmaster, you’ll wear many
hats by taking on a variety of roles as you’re ready for
them. Roles are rotated among the members on a weekly basis.
Most of our meetings follow this outline:
President calls
the meeting to order and welcomes guests.
Early
Bird opens the meeting with a quote of the day and
the Pledge
of Allegiance. Early bird also counts votes for best Speaker, best
Evaluator and best Table Topics.
President leads
group in introductions and then introduces
the Toastmaster.
Toastmaster delivers
remarks about the theme of the meeting
and introduces each participant.
Grammarian explains
his or her role and provides “word of the day.”
Timer explains
how the “time machine” works in timing table topics,
speeches and evaluations.
Table
Topics Master gives topics for the one-minute impromptu
speaking session.
Speakers (usually
three) deliver prepared speeches.
General
Evaluator introduces the speech evaluators.
Evaluators (one
for each speaker) provide supportive feedback
to the speakers, as well as suggestions for making the speeches
even better.
Grammarian reports
on all speakers’ use of the word of the day
and comments on good and poor grammar and word usage.
General
Evaluator provides constructive feedback about the
meeting
as a whole.
Toastmaster awards
ribbons for best Speaker, Evaluator and
Table Topics participant, makes closing remarks and then returns
control to the President.
President asks
guests for comments, makes announcements
and adjourns meeting.
